Lance Most shops that I visit, and the ones that I have managed, directly download the image and drill files to the inspector from CAM to use as referance ( sometimes called CAD download) for reference inspection purposes. Set up for inmspection is generally accomplished on the inspector, or, off line on an E/R station. Off line set up and then storage of the inspection files on the inspector provides the advantage of maintaining inspector productivity while setting up the jobs. In the very near future, I expect to see an ability to set up, or program the inspection files, from CAM. That is, the CAM operator will be able to select the edit out areas, all reference features, select material type and copper surface preparation as well as all other info now determined by the AOI operator during their set up procedure. True CAAM set up as well as reference.
