One of the lesser known, most unique, least expensive, and trouble free Palladium plating systems is offered by RD Chemical Company. It is called the Paladin(TM) system, and it is the only IMMERSION Palladium plating system available commercially, as compared to the other ELECTROLESS Palladium plating systems. Immersion plating systems (versus electroless) are much easier to run, much less prone to give you spurious, or unwanted plating, much less expensive, and are self limiting. The deposits tend to be less porous, and smoother than electroless, because they are metal exchange plating systems, and will plate only on to a specific substrate, in this case Copper, and when all the Copper is covered, plating ceases. The bath is a fabricators dream come true, because it is possible to put a lid on the bath for a year, come back, heat it up, and it will plate like it did a year ago. There are only two controls, pH, and metal content. And further, it does not build Copper in the bath, as when the Copper builds to 150 ppm, it starts falling out, and is simply filtered out. Apologies to those offended by any potentially commercial aspects that they believe they see in this message. Further information cheerfully available off line.
