With regard to the inquiry on Alloy 42 pre-treatment below, most companies who are plating this base material today use proprietary cleaning/descaling processes which have been designed for specific lead frame alloys, Alloy 42 included. These processes are available from a number of suppliers, LeaRonal included, but as Technet is not a commercial forum, I will not go into the specifics of our process. In general, all of these types of pre-treatment processes contain one or more oxidizing agents, acid (usually sulfuric), and possibly other compounds such as inhibitors or mild chelating agents. Finding the right combination of ingredients to properly pre-treat the material without causing problems in the plating process is what the specialty chemical suppliers are supposed to do. If you've not had success with other products and if you desire more information you can contact me off-line. Rob Schetty LeaRonal Inc. We have tried using 5% sulphuric acid and others proprietary chemicals also sulphuric acid based , the operating window is limited .
