We use Ciba RP140 epoxy resin and a vacuum to
fill all types of holes very successfully.

For photgraphing a coating of electroless copper helps
a great deal.  Don't etch it away.  This shows not only
any nailheading, but also the condition of resin and
glass along the hole wall.

Nailheading rarely goes away with additional steps, although
microetches might remove a little bit
