These are the areas you can try in your testing: 1. Entry material. Try 9 mil composite aluminum. Keeps smaller bits (.012 - .020) from flexing and reduces breakage. 2. Try different infeed rates on your drills. Try chip loads .8 - 1 mil. 3. Try different drill bit constructions. Some vendors have thicker webs that stiffen the bit. There are trade-offs though with less room for chip evacuation with thicker webs. 4. Clean collets (every shift) and check spindle run-outs often (200 machine hours). 5. Make sure that your coordinate measuring system gets calibrated often so you get accurate measurements. Also make sure you use double-sided tape when checking hole locations. Hope this puts you down the right road............ > <[log in to unmask]> 5/1/97, 11:17am >>> What are the factors that contribute to drill wander? We are planning to improve the amount of drill wander we get. If anyone has any ideas of possible techniques for improvement, I will be very appreciative. *************************************************************************** * TechNet mail list is provided as a service by IPC using SmartList v3.05 * *************************************************************************** * To subscribe/unsubscribe send a message <to: [log in to unmask]> * * with <subject: subscribe/unsubscribe> and no text in the body. * *************************************************************************** * If you are having a problem with the IPC TechNet forum please contact * * Dmitriy Sklyar at 847-509-9700 ext. 311 or email at [log in to unmask] * *************************************************************************** *************************************************************************** * TechNet mail list is provided as a service by IPC using SmartList v3.05 * *************************************************************************** * To subscribe/unsubscribe send a message <to: [log in to unmask]> * * with <subject: subscribe/unsubscribe> and no text in the body. * *************************************************************************** * If you are having a problem with the IPC TechNet forum please contact * * Dmitriy Sklyar at 847-509-9700 ext. 311 or email at [log in to unmask] * ***************************************************************************
