In a previous existence within a special to type test equipment design organisation we used ORCAD. We were already familiar with Autocad since we used it for our mechanical design, and the designers found considerable commonality. We calculated that the cost of a layout and manufacture was similar (in fact marginally less than) the cost of a wire wrap board. Our typical requirement was for a one-off and thus the cost was important. I believe the output was a gerber file but we just passed the disc containing the layout to a local board manufacturer and received a plot within 2 days and a board within 5 days or less if it was urgent. ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Software Question Author: [log in to unmask] at INTERNET Date: 08-04-97 6:38 We are not a board fab or assy house. I am looking for board layout software. We currently use AutoCad for board layout. I want to move away from this since it's not software made for layout work. I've been looking at P-Cad, GerbTool and ProTel. 1. Is it safe to assume everyone basically talks in gerber file language? 2. Anyone care to comment on software for layout? I am looking specifically for people with experience on the software they talk about. NOT spams.
