Hi David! I have done some initial investigating of the AlphaLevel finish and was encouraged by its performance. The investigation results were reported as part of the paper: "Wirebondability and Solderability of Various Metallic Finishes for Use In Printed Circuit Assembly", SMI Conference Proceedings, 1996, page 687. A paper on the finish was also published in the IPC 1996 Expo proceedings, "Alternative Metal Finishes for Wire Bond and Soldering Applications", by Steve Beigle, page S9-2. I think that there is quite a bit of room for more investigation to be completed - there a several companies/individuals working on testing right now. I believe that there will be a paper on the finish at the IPC 1997 Expo too. Give Frank Kurisu, SolderMask Inc of Huntington Beach CA 714-842-1987, a call for more info - they were going to set up a plating tank and begin processing real product. I have concerns on the possible migration of the finish under certain conditions and voltages but the published SIR data to date has been good. Good Luck. Any comments are appreciated. ________________________________________________________________________ | [log in to unmask] David Tandy. EDA Specialist.
