HI Jan Most bend/form die sets do NOT use oil. If there is oil, this may be due to a leak in the hydraulic piston. Check with your supplier on this. I have tested on some parts affected by this before for solderability (Mil-Std) and found it to pass. You probably can remove this using IPA. Next thing to check is the trays/tubes that are used to contain these parts. We have experienced some 'bleeding' of the antistatic/static-dissipative coating that leads a oily appearance on the package body. This has also be tested not to affect solderability. Again, IPA seems to work. Hope this helps. regards Jeff-MH Tan Hewlett Packard Singapore Integrated Circuit Business Division ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: ASSY:Oil coating on components. The level of degradation will be dependent on the type of flux you are using - some fluxes can move/change/eliminate the oil and some fluxes are rendered useless. The amount of time the oil stays in contact with the component leads can be a variable also. My experience has been that most folks use some type of cleaning step (either water or solvent based depending on the type of oil involved) to remove the oil contamination rather than rely on the flux to do the job. I suspect some kind of lubricant coating after using these machines on our components. The machines need this to operate properly. Is there any other kind of lubricant or some other solution to this? How does oil affect the solderability? Is there any low-cost way to remove this oil before wave soldering without much time loss? I'm greatful for anykind of info. /Jan Merstrand [log in to unmask] *************************************************************************** * TechNet mail list is provided as a service by IPC using SmartList v3.05 * *************************************************************************** * To unsubscribe from this list at any time, send a message to: * * [log in to unmask] with <subject: unsubscribe> and no text. * *************************************************************************** *************************************************************************** * TechNet mail list is provided as a service by IPC using SmartList v3.05 * *************************************************************************** * To unsubscribe from this list at any time, send a message to: * * [log in to unmask] with <subject: unsubscribe> and no text. * ***************************************************************************
