1.  As carbon comp resistors are stored they tend to absorb moisture.  When 
they go through wave soldering process increases the resistance value 
significantly in lower ohmage resistors.  In many cases this resistance 
increase is permanent.  When it is permanent does it cause any physical 
damage?? Or change any operating characteristics??  It is not practical for 
me to store these in a dry environment.
2.  I've been told from time-to-time, the main reason carbon comps are used 
because they open when they fail.  Is that an old engineer's tale?? What 
would be a good subsitute??
