We have an assembly that is very high quanities that we wave solder sheilds on without a problem. Are you sure that the shield is coming in contact with the solder evenly? (consistant solder dwell time) Is the sheild at proper temperature evenly? What are you using for solder temperature and wave equipment? Otherwise maybe it is a solderability problem with the sheilds. I wish I could help more but, we have never had this problem (yet!) ---------- From: TechNet-request To: Technet Cc: Jan.Merstrand Subject: Re: FAB: Solder plated shields Date: Thursday, August 01, 1996 02:23 Hi Jan - Try adding a small amount of solder paste on the shield's thru holes and the joints should not be insufficient. The solder paste reflows as the assembly hits the wave. I'm just curious. Is there any one who solder shields in their wave solder machine? We're soldering shields in our machine using some extra flux and a little higher wave section at that moment on the pcb. But there's a problem, we can't solder just one part. If you imagine that you have 2 exactly similar shields on a PCB, one shield going short ended and one long sided going through the waves, and the shield which goes short ended first won't solder one of the short sides, always. We've checked if they're warped and so on, with no luck. Any suggestions, ideas or anyone having similar problems, i sure would appreciate them.
