I am looking for any information on the mounting of TO-220 and TO-247 as surface mount parts. An additional complication is that these parts dissipate a significant amount of heat, in the range of 4-10 Watts, and do to minimal airflow over the parts, must therefore be mounted directly onto a cold plate. This means that the part body will be mounted on the cold plate but the leads will be gull-wing formed and soldered to a pwb. See below for a real poor depiction of problem. Has anyone else been faced with this situation and if so how was it overcome? Thanks for your suggestions in advance. ______________ formed lead |TO-220 / 247| ---- -------------- |====== | _________________________ Gasket | | PWB | ______________|____|_________________________|__________________ | | Cold Plate | | | | ________________________________________________________________| ************************************************************************* * * * Al Aquino Lockheed Martin * * [log in to unmask] Government Electronic Systems * * PH: 609-722-3166 199 Borton Landing Road * * FAX: 609-722-4171 Moorestown, NJ 08057 * * * *************************************************************************
