I'd like to echo Don Vischulis' and Dave Pizzoferrato's comments regarding this thickness issue (Don: I think the only place for measuring that you may have left out is "over the connector fingers"). I see a couple of issues here: 1) Place for measurement is critical. Make sure the fabricator knows. Please give us your finished requirements. What the board measures before plating is of no consequence to the end user. 2) Everything in life has a tolerance. To complain that you want boards that are 1.55 to 1.60 mm (.061" to .063") thick and you are receiving boards 1.70 to 1.77 mm (.067" to .070") thick is unrealistic. State your nominal finished thickness requirement (ex: 1.57 mm or .062"), where it is to be measured, and allow a tolerance of +/-10% on 2 and 4 layer product, or +/-12% on 6+ layer product. Work closely with your board fabricator, and over time these tolerances can be tightened through experience with fabricating that part. Regards, Tom Coyle Field Services Engineer HADCO Corporation
