Suzanne, I agree with Tom Carroll's (Hughes Aircraft) response. However, I would like to add the following comment (two cents worth): "Design induced" defects would be hidden from your trend analysis data base if you elected not to document wave solder defects prior to rework. e.g., Poor PTH to lead diameter ratio causing insufficent solder would be masked by the undocumented rework. Remember, the primary purpose of all defect recording should be to identify the root cause whether it be workmanship, materials, or design. By the way, I am elated to see someone else who is also working to convert MIL-STD-2000A requirements to J-STD-001 or IPC-A-610. We are currently preparing a contract block change request to convert our MIL-Q-9858A Quality System requirements to ISO 9001.
