Thad, I think we need this book. Refer to Jerry Cupples post of Oct 24, 95 copied below. Well, Norman Einarson responded, and I counter-posted etc. The only things we did not cover were the additional benefit of being able to warm pizza in the baking oven, solderability of pepperoni, and whether capacitors taste better than anchovies. Then, out of the blue last week came a phone call from Norm Einarson, which my voice mail did not catch and I actually answered. When he introduced himself, I half expected him to lambast me for my foolish position, but what ensued was a rather long winded but friendly conversation about circuit boards. I learned something. At the end, I displayed more ignorance by asking him what he did. He told me he was a consultant, lecturer, and writer, etc. and offered to send me a copy of his latest book. Today it came in the mail. "Bare Board PWB Design Manual" 1995, by Norman S. Einarson. I took it home, and have leafed through all of it, reading several chapters. I have several other PWB related references, by Coombs and others. Although useful, these were written mostly for the fabricator rather than the designer and end user. The Einarson book is concise, well written, and very current. I have not seen it at any of the shows - maybe I just missed it. It has 7 chapters: Complete Tooling Package Bare Board Testing Selecting Board Laminate Material Controlled Impedance for High Speed Circuits Selecting a Surface Finish Design Guides for Manufacturability Calculating Bare Board Pricing It is 158 pages long, has numerous figures and tables, and available (at a reasonable $50) in paperback version from: Printed Circuit Technology P.O. Box 334 Burlington, MA 01803 617-272-0938 I apologize if this is commercial, but I fully intend to order a couple more copies for use in our Company (they _can't_ have mine). The writing style and content are a nice compromise between common sense and technical detail. It is intended to "bring designers current with the fabricators and identify the design cost drivers". I think it succeeds quite well. I'm sure Mr. Einarson would not intend that someone post this (he might prefer just my 50 bucks), but I believe most would agree this is a timely and very useful reference for this business. regards, Jerry Cupples Interphase Corporation Dallas, TX
