IPC New Release: ONSHOR-14

On-Shoring in the North American Electronics Industry: 2014 Update on Trends and the Impact on Companies

Results of IPC studies of both planned and actual on-shoring activity by North American manufacturers, including operations moved from overseas back to North America and new operations established in North America. All of the data from the 2013 trends study and the 2014 business impact study are included. The studies also cover data on domestic sourcing trends in the industry from IPC's 2012 and 2014 studies.

Data cover industry segments engaged in on-shoring, types of operations involved, value of operations and number of jobs created by the responding companies, and origin and destination of operations moved. Data from 16 companies that actually engaged in on-shoring or domestic sourcing cover the impact on business metrics such as production and shipping costs, management time and costs, delivery time, time to market, yields and quality, inventories and sales. On-shoring drivers, deterrents and issues are covered, as well as updates on major on-shoring initiatives by leading companies, the status of the cost gap, and recommendations for North American companies considering on-shoring.
