Can you be more specific?

Are you cleaning contacts?

If they are contacts you're cleaning and are sensitive to contamination the cleaning fluid should be clean itself, i.e. if you are rinsing/evaporating light solvents you don't want any heavy non-volatile oils left behind on a contact. And I'd guess lighter fluid isn't the purest stuff in the world.

p.s. Don't know anything about guitars/tuners.

Subject: [TN] NTC cleaning gold finish

OK, the topic sounds like it could be on topic......

I have a new guitar. The electronics are cool, could be ENiG, but...

The real question is the Tuners. They are very thin gold plate over Nickel (sound familiar?). I have heard people suggest cleaning them with Naptha (or lighter fluid). I figured who would know better than the gurus here if that's a good idea.

Naptha on Gold over Nickel - good or bad idea?
