Suppliers and users of conformal coatings,

I've recently had a request for the Mil-I-46058 Group A test results
(Group A tests includes Cure Time & Temperature, Appearance, and
Thickness) to be added to a coatings C of A. I have a concern that adding
this information will cause some confusion among those not familiar with
the Mil-Spec, such as that the Thickness result will somehow be
interpreted to be a type of qualitative property of the coating.
The coating is tested to 46058 and is on the QPL.

I have been in the coating industry for 20+ years and in direct support of
our coatings for the last 10 years. This is the first request that we've
had for this information. Therefore, I am trying to understand if this is
a unique request or if others in the military community are thinking of
also adding these results as a Cert requirement.

Suppliers/manufacturers - have you received similar requests for reporting
the Group A results?

Users - do you have internal requirements to obtain Group A results? Or,
do you have future plans for requesting this data? Are you aware of any
new requirements that would drive this request?

It seems odd to me to receive a request for this information now, almost
15 years after the Mil-Spec was declared inactive for new product design.

Thanks in advance for your input and comments.
