I agree this is bad.  Liquid flux, even no-clean liquid flux, is a bad idea for hand solder operations.  To use any amount of watersoluble flux in a location where you can't clean is also a bad idea.  You're just tossing acid in there, so of course it will corrode the metals.  If you don't have cleaning access, then you need to use a no-clean flux.  And not disturb it.
