Agree with Larry. I haven't done any study and we use 4-mil stencils quite regularly, and just recently a 4-mil stencil with a 3-mil step (I'll let you know if we have any problems). I wouldn't think that you should see any issues as long as you use reasonable pressure and aren't holding the nozzle up against the stencil...
