Hi Jack, It's really important to have properly sized holes, have proper tooling, and a proper press for press-fit applications. If everything is done properly, press-fit connections are extremely reliable. I've installed press-fits in military hardware more than any other. It looks the connectors you've shown use displacement pin technology. Myself, I prefer compliant pin press-fit technology though... Can boards be damaged by so much pressure? (assuming we prevent warping). Seems like there would have to be some limit to compressive force on laminate, but I've never heard anyone mention it.
