Peter, I did not open my mail box until today, so, I'm little late. Like many others, I thought Werner would live for ever. And indeed he does. His thousands of mail replies are waves that will roll still for years. His uncountable chats with persons from all over the worldl will also live in those person's minds. His countless lessons and seminars have created small plants everywhere as have also his many articles in various magazines and scientific newspapers. When a popular person leave us, typically, superlatives are lined up from everywhere and anyone. Words that should been said to that person when still alive. I'm normally critical to such aftermaths, but in this case I add to the others, because Werner WAS super ! The first that I will always think of when he comes to my mind is his humor. His humor seemed to be endless, shining upon all and always. That is Werner Engelmaier for me. Next I will remember is his technical capacity. In opposition to many academics, he was also a man of practice, therefore, even people 'on the floor' (W disliked that expression) could understand what he was saying. I used to have fun offline chats with him about his Ursprung, and I found that he was still partly a German, his Herkunft not forgotten, so I end this with saying : Werner was a good germanican. Will miss him strongly.
