Steve: It ain't clear that the DI is doing it, but it does make sense, since the DI is SO much less conductive, lacking any ions in it, that it could hold a charge a lot better than tap water. Maybe you want to consider using soft water, to eliminate the chlorides, but retain the ionic strength?
