Hi Bev - as a materials engineer, I think much more black and white - antimony is a metal where as Diet Coke and Diet Mt. Dew are nonmetals. I am just curious as to why you said antimony is not a metal. I agree it's not a very good metal, but it's usual allotrope is more metallic than not. Hillman Sent: Friday, September 17, 2010 8:06 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] NTC Friday Element Quiz: The Question Hi folks - here is the Friday Element Question: The Question: This element has been known since the 5th century B.C. and is believed to be first produced as a metal in 1250 A.D. This element is sometimes added to Pb plates as a strengthening addition. This element is typically a by-product from copper, lead and zinc ores rather than being mined for the sole purpose of its own recovery. This element was used at one time for the control of boll weevil damage in cotton crops in Mexico and the United States until prohibited due to toxicity/environmental issues. What element am I? The winner of this week's quiz will get to put Clumpy to work at their facility on a task of their choosing. So far Clumpy has: Week 1 Lamar Young, SCS Coatings - accomplished nothing (drank lots of coffee) Week 2 Bev Christian, RIM - conducted REACH material testing Week 3 Drew Meyer, Bench - Solderability testing and mowing the lawn Week 4 Ian Fox, Goodrich - ???? Ian owes us a description Week 4 Gary Ferrari, Garrick Global - ???? Gary owes us a description Week 5 Fredrick Miller, Astrolab - ???? Fredrick owes us a description Good Luck.
