Cheryl,

Go to File>Export>DXF

Select the layers that you want to convert.  I usually select the assembly layer (shows the component outlines) and board.  Next, uncheck the “Output Drill Symbols” box.  Also uncheck the “Include Title Sheet” box.  Finally, check the Draft Mode box.  If you do not select draft mode, the DXF converter will add a circle to the end of every line.  Do not include any layers that have text since that increases the number of lines to be converted exponentially.  Depending on how you have designed your board, you may have to draw features on the assembly layer to locate features like mounting holes.  Finally select OK.

You can then do a direct import of the DXF file into either mechanical design package.  If you have any problems, let me know.  We do this all the time.

Subject: [DC] Fwd: translate p-cad file??

Hi all you experts!  I am a CID+ who left PCB design 3 years ago, so If I once knew, I forgot :-(.

How do you export pcad to dwg or solidworks?

sincerely,

Hi Cheryl,
It's been a long time.  Hope you're doing well.

I have a PCB CAD question, you're the expert...

I thought it would be easy to translate a pcad (*.pcb) mechanical file to something an ME could use, like *.dwg, or *.dxf,  or better yet, solidworks, but I've struck out.  Can you give me any suggestions?  it's a little contract job while I look for a real employer.

You still loving Trimble????  How's the family???

Dave Foster
