Greg In 2002 a lady in our plant was opening boxes of pink poly bags and then noticed that she had a tingling on the ends of her fingers, then a rash to her first knuckles, second, third, wrists, elbows, shoulder!! We had to send her to E.R. EHS quarantined ALL pink poly bags we were buying from about 6 or 7 suppliers and gave us a sample of the bag type that affected her and samples of all the rest. Using FTIR we were able to separate the sheep from the goats, as it were. Two or three types of bags were using a particular amine additive as the hydroscopic material to induce the formation of the thin layer of water molecules on the bag that acts as the actual static charge deterrent. We purged all those bags and she never had a problem again. And, no, I do not know the name of the company that produced the bags. An expressed concern has been the chemicals added to the surface of pink poly can potentially contaminate our products with the residue pink poly leaves behind. I have posted a picture of one of our boxes which have both the pink poly and black ESD style of cap plugs. What are any of your experiences with contamination associated with using pink poly? As always, thanks, Gregg Owens Technical Writer - Avionics Space Exploration Technologies Corporation 1 Rocket Road | Hawthorne | CA | 90250 310-363-6533 | [log in to unmask] ______________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned by the MessageLabs Email Security System.
