Hi, As a less than proud owner of a EFD Ultra machine with $7k DV7000 valve I can absolutely assure you that EFD is not light years ahead. Other than using a PDA with a "Fall Off" connector as a controller you are left to decode the low level command language on your own. I had to use a RS-232 protocol analyzer to figure out the initialization requirements. With that I was able to decode their other protocol "Atoms" and build my own app. With machine control in place I started with their "Wonder Valve". (With experience I now Wonder why I bought it.) As for the $7K valve on small dots (10mil) it is like painting a wall by sitting the paint can next to the wall and kicking the can. The dynamic range of the valve was terrible. If you want a $25K paper weight it works real well. Thanks, Bob Kondner -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Stadem, Richard D. So if you want to stop the machine and dispense some other epoxy, you do not need to tear down the auger valves and clean them, then set them up again. Nordson/EFD is light years ahead in micro-dispensing technology. -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Roger Mack Sent: Monday, January 18, 2010 10:02 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [TN] Dispensing system We use Creative Automation. The positive displacement pump gives excellent control of dot sizes, and can also be programmed to dispense beads or patterns. We have both the 3700 benchtop and 8300 inline models which we use for chipbonder. Their application engineers have always been very helpful, and other pump styles are available depending on the application. We have tips if we need to run 0402 or smaller, but currently discourage gluing parts this small in our DFM rules to make life easier. Whatever you pick, if you do not use it daily make sure it is easy to clean out or purge. For the Loctite 3621 chipbonder we only allow one month out of the fridge. If a syringe is not empty in that time it is disposed of. Exceeding shelf life and expiry dates will affect adhesion. Since we have replaced all but one of our wave solder machines with select solder we often only glue a few small parts per board and were finding that some heads were not using even 30cc's per month. Any manufacturer will run samples for you so you can make sure they are capable of meeting your requirements. http://www.creativedispensing.com/ Roger Mack P.Eng. We do not have a spec set yet but we are considering nScypt benchtop system. Is nScrypt the best choice? Does any one know of a competitive or better performing dispensing system to make very fine features? Any references for comparison or consideration will be appreciated. As we are a university research center, we can not limit the possible uses of this system but would welcome if a system has greater utility in the future. We may be using the system to dispense all kinds of materials as long as it can. Thanks. Syed.
