From what I can tell (here and on another forum), there isn't really a clear "standard" to either BOM's or this issue. [Nor to parts that are installed after testing the assembly.] I've seen DNI, TBD, SOT, SAT, DNA to describe these parts! It seems that any naming convention can be used, with the knowledge that it will have to be explained (DNI means don't install, SAT means something will get installed at a later date, etc).
