Similar to Inge's Volvo story, I had a similar experience with the furnace several years back; the furnace would just suddenly intermittently just shut down.
The poor kid, and I mean a VERY young kid, had replaced one thing after another over several trips.
The last culprit of course was the least accessible and least likely (according to HVAC technicians) item - the simple circuit board assembly that he replaced.
I took one look at it and a whole row of mechanical relay socket pins had terrible cold joints. I took the opportunity to enlighten the young man on what a good
solid shiny solder joint should look like compared to bad ones.
