Paula, Thank you for the thoughtful answer. As I see it now the world has one serious issues: North Korea, Iran and possible Taliban with nukes. All real scary. I am willing to talk with anyone but not at the expense of "Peace in Our Time". This time the consequences are too high. See picture below. Bob Kondner Oh the untold suffering brought on by this event. I can see the wisdom on both sides and I think what I'm leaning toward is compassion for the "bad guys". In the end, we all want the same basic things, to be loved, to love. Safety for our families and loved ones. Enough to eat. A warm, dry place to live. When I consider that we are all humans with those basic needs and wants, it gives me compassion for my foes. I know that there are different beliefs and values and extenuating circumstances that cause people to act the way they do. However, self-defense and the defense of those who can't defend themselves sometimes requires a little hot lead. I hate to be a fence sitter, but in answer to your question, I think the circumstances sometimes dictate both. But, I have a question: What do we "Owe" to the bad guys on the other sides? Is it hot lead or an open mind? And if we "Owe" them something should it be "Paid Back" now? I couldn't help but add a bit here. I owe a huge debt of gratitude for all the men and women who gave their lives for the freedom I enjoy. I spent the last 10 days in intensive training in Israel so that I can pass along my hand to hand combat training to law enforcement and military personel. For those times when they don't have the time to draw a weapon to defned in an attack as well as ways to control/subdue a suspect, and control, subdue a scene. I have always appreciated the difficult position these folks have, but after several intense scenarios, I have an even better understanding of the stress involved in a live situation. Hats off to all of you who have and are still serving. I want to say that I also contemplate Canada's losses from war. Your nation has also given it's treasure for the same... One of my fondest memories from my Navy days was participating in a yearly joint exercise that was hosted by our Canadian friends out of RCAF Comox on Vancouver island. What great times! I still have the RCAF patch I was able to get from over 30-years ago.
