This depends on whether you want the board released to IPC class 3, manufactured in accordance with IPC class 3, inspected to IPC class 3, manufactured and tested to IPC class 3 etc etc, as the microsection regime for manufacture and test is 1 coupon per panel for a low number of panels, identical to MIL testing, compared to one microsection per lot if you just call for inspection class 3. The weasel words confuse us poor fabricators as to what you really want, so we have to check that the customer knows how to interpret them. If the customer wants high level class 3 testing done, we have an additional cost per panel to cover the lab and report work. As an aside, I would love to know if there is an IPC interpretation document that can standardise wording in such a way that all can understand the real intent. As an English speaker, our language is almost too rich in subtlety for mere engineers to understand the differences created by small words such as 'to' or 'in'. regards Dougal -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Bray, Anita (GE EntSol, Security) Sent: 05 February 2009 16:43 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Typical Cost difference between IPC-6012 Class 2 and Class 3 boards Does anyone have any information on the typical cost difference between IPC-6012 Class 2 and 3 on board fab? for a typical board?
