Looks like your gull-winged parts have taken a tern for the worse. Dewey -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Roberts, Jon Sent: Wednesday, December 10, 2008 11:49 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] QUESTION ON GULL WING COMPONENT LEAD CONFIGURATION ANOMALY A question came up here the other day and the question was related to gull-winged components having what appeared to be a weld anywhere from half way of the leg to being almost to the knee. See IPC-A-610D, Figures 5-12, 5-13, 8-76, 8-82, & 8-90. Exposed basis metal is covered in section 5.2.1. The ones we have, the basis metal is exposed at that "weld looking area" that happens during the bending of the leads and blade cuts by the component manufacture. IPC-A-610 is not a component spec but does show pictorial component with this condition but on words. I am asked to find if this condition is acceptable on incoming product. We are developing inspection criteria for determining components are authentic and not counterfeit or reclaimed components, when this issue came up. The lead plating is gold (Au), nickel (Ni), and palladium (Pd).
