This is a fantastic reference book, IMO.  Not a casual read but a great desktop reference for anyone designing boards.  You can of course benefit from reading the IPC standards but the Coombs book gives many of them the valuable context that is important for understanding why you're doing something.  (e.g. one might tell you the formula is x*y/z^2...the other (coombs) tends to add some explanation around those numbers...not that all IPC specs are a dry collection of numbers (I can imagine people turning in their chairs) but I, for on, found value in the insights and reasoning supplied by combs).

Cheers,

Joe

Not to be off topic about from coupons and such, but I do have a question....

Have you read or looked at the "Printed Circuits Handbook" by Clyde F. Coombs?  I'm just kind of curious to see if it would be worth purchasing, though I have a feeling it is.

Thanks in advance,
