I do know that occasionally Listserv has ask me to confirm my membership of the IPC forums.  This email used to be blocked by my company’s old spam filter.   I knew I had to confirm my email and desire to remain a member of this forum when my messages to this forum would bounce or I did not receive mail from this forum for 2 days.

Your friend should try to update their profile on IPC.

On the other topic, I am not a member of the Designers Council but my company has and IPC membership.  I believe you need one or the other to join the listserv forums.

Regards,

As far as I know, there has never been a moderator for this listserver.

Joining is as easy as sending the email to listserv.org,

and no human is required to "verify" or "approve" the membership.

If you send the subscription request you start recieving emails IMMEDIATELY

as I'm sure anyone on Technet knows (sometimes an email per minute?)

If that is changing to the point that someone cannot express disappointment

without being banned, that's shameful.

I sincerely hope your friend's experience was a simple mistake.

but

I could host an OPEN list on my server if this continues...

(as a matter of fact, the DIGEST feature on Yahoo Groups blows this one away,

even though I don't like Yahoo that much)

onward thru the fog,

Jack

I thought that one of the main reasons for this forum was to air out our problems so they can be discussed openly with other designers, in a constrictive professional manner of course. If the people are truly blocked and the information posted was incorrect why didn't IPC try and explain their position or defend the current one? Are we not supposed to discuss problems we are having in this group be it IPC or design related concerns? How are the problems going to be addressed if no one knows about them?

I believe I remember the individual you are talking about.  Many of his posts were unpleasant as you describe; he was practically begging to be "sanctioned".

While the latest round of postings were strongly critical, they were civilized and professionally communicated for the most part.  Blocking these people without any legitimate reason or warning is an over-reaction, and comes across as a draconian measure that actually serves to support the original poster's complaints.  This sort of thing is very petty behavior for a professional organization.  Really bad PR for IPC.

This is playing out like a prime example of personal/corporate "politics", for which I have zero patience.  With all the garbage happening in the rest of the Universe, do we really need another source of stress?  I don't.  So, if I happen to get banned for this post....*shrug*
