When soldering or pre-tinning stranded wire or cables you should only use an RMA flux followed by an immediate dipping in IPA. Whatever flux you use will be wicked up under the insulation or within the exposed strands and cannot be completely cleaned away. This can cause a potential corrosion issue. Sealing with heatshrink is irrelevant, the connections can corrode anyway, with or without heatshrink tubing. Note! A no-clean flux is NOT the same as an RMA flux, and should not be used to tin stranded wires. WS fluxes should not be used for tinning. -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Wilson, Bob Sent: Wednesday, August 20, 2008 1:16 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Flux on cable wires Hi, Does flux cause a problem on cable wiring to connector soldered pins if they are sealed with heatshrink? Or will the connections corrode anyway? Thanks!
