When you place the tip on your component or solder site, the temperature falls asymptotically from your 380 C or 425 C to the desired soldering temperature, that can be 220 C or 240 C. However, there are risks with using as high temperature. If the component has a poor contact with the solder site, the component (or part of it) may rush to 425 C in a few seconds, and not all components like that. There may be a thermal damage. If it's possible, use a lower temperature, and a tip with a large mass, i.e. the temperature will not fall below 220 C or 240 C. my 2 tips Inge -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Luan Nguyen Sent: den 26 juni 2008 10:48 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Temperature of lead-free for hand soldering Dear All, We have a question about set temperature for hand soldering. We were using Hakko FM-202. - For tin lead, we set 320 C degree - For lead-free, we plan to set 380 C degree. However, we can not find any standard (IPC, J-STD) mention to set temperature. We refer some documents, experience sharing that temperature range is from 370 C degree to 425 C degree. Moreover, in there is also mention as "> 80 W hand soldering is always OK" that effect us due to Hakko FM-202 have power consumption of soldering iron is 70W. Please help me any reference, any document, any advice. Thanks and best regards, *************************** Nguyen Hoang Luan QC&Training Supervisor Spartronics VietNam Co, Ltd.
