Hold the presses. OSP nearly always darkens a little bit over time, it does not necessarily mean they won't solder up just fine. Also, I know that the second side gets a little darker simply from going through reflow for side one. I would suggest you try a couple prior to trashing the lot. The worst that would happen is two boards needing somewhat more solder touchup than a normally processes board. -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Leland Woodall Sent: Friday, May 02, 2008 2:34 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Cleaning of OSP Oxidation Folks, I have about 30 OSP boards that have been processed on the bottom side, were stashed away or misplaced for 6 to 9 months, and recently brought to me for permission to process on the top side. Most of these appear to have varying degrees of oxidation, as the original light orange copper appearance has begun to look more like a 5 year old penny. Is there a way to salvage this product? Not only will they get the more complex components (appx. 70% of assembly cost) during top side build, but they must also undergo wave soldering of a 132 pin connector and several through-hole power transistors. I feel quite uncomfortable with doing anything other than trashing the product...
