It's not really a question of try it to find out.

If it's not rated for water wash, you just don't do it - manual afterwards
with no-clean, or (horrors)  sockets....

Even rated parts have bad days. Be realistic with expectations - unless you
can see a suitable sealing method used for switches, don't believe a word of
claims to the contrary.

Even parts working at high voltage can have bad reactions between internal
'lubricants' and moisture ingress, producing open circuit contact in
hands-free production line evaluation that isn't detectable until the switch
is (manually) exercised, with no other contaminating influences.

Production test is not intended to detect this kind of basic component flaw
- when it does, it's already too late.
