Hi Tony -

I think it should be no problem to get Cr+6 standards from your usual
Reagent supplier. Cr+6 standards are widly used by metal finishers and
QA/Safety Labs.

However, you should specify to them the spectrascopy method (eg, ICP
emission, Atomic Absoption, Ion cromotography, etc). Don't forget to
ensure the actual lot analysis is included on label or certificate.

You may need more than one depending on the dectability limit and expected
range.

One point I'd like to stress is the digestion method used to prepare the
test specimens is importiant when testing for Cr+6 in platics (eg, as
catalysit or pigment) since some platics are very resistant to chemical
digestion. If you have a microwave digestion unit that would be the best
method (ie, weigh sample, microwave digestion, dissolution, test).

Re: [TGA] RoHS管制+6价的Cr,为何是离子 态的管 制?

Hi Chris, Benjamin,

I am glad to learn from you guys about Cr+6 existing form and would like
to ask you whether you know where I can find and procure the standard
sample of pure Cr+6 for calibration of the Spectroscopy machine since XRF
equipment can not accurate measurement and can only show the Cr+6
existence.

Hello, Chris:
Glad to get your information. As I am working on electronic product
assembling manufacturing, I am interested in Cr+6 coating.
Most of screw supplier use Cr+6 on screws plating, now they have
changed liquid to Cr+3. But we found Cr+3 is not so black as Cr+6.Do you
have any experiment on it?
For metal, we have ink painting and powder coating, I don't know if
there are Cr+6 on these process.

    Thanks!

Hi Ziyi -

Please note the pollowing points about Cr+6:

1. Testing by XRF should only be doine as an audit mechanism since the
accuracy is inferior to spectrascopy. All test for certification to
customers should be by spectrascopy ir some may reject or challange the
report.

2. The main use of Cr+6 in electronics is as "Chromate" coating of metals
and pigment (colorant) in inks, paints and plastics.

3. Some OEMs are requiring more strict limits for Cr+6 and Cd. I suggest
to check your customer's specifications carefully, especially Japanese
customers or OEMs of monile phones. In this case "Green" requirements may
exceed RoHS.

Hi Ziyi,

As the supplementary information for other's answers.

It is because the Cr6+ is more toxic than Cr or Cr3+, but its existence in
nature is by chemical compound in solid state with other ions or ionic
groups. The analysis is to measure how much of chromium existed as the
state of Cr6+ in the chemical compounds of the product. Though existed in
chemical compound state (solid), when inhaled or other ways into human
bodies, it will be then decomposed into Cr6+ in human body (as the salt
dissolved in blood or water) to cause toxic reaction. How we verify the
existence of Cr6+ is usually by X-Ray Fluorescence (nondestructive),
UV-Visible Spectroscopy (destructive) quantitatively, or other known
chemical reactions quantitatively or qualitatively.

Hope this helps, and please feel free to let me know if any further
information necessary, thank you very much!!

Dear All:
  为什么RoHS管制+6价的Cr?在我认为:固态的产品(电镀层)如何出现离子态,很
另人困惑~,恳请各位支招!
谢谢!
