What they mean is that for example you can't buy a PC for your catering corps desk sergeant and claim this is military use. Any product that is widely available for civilian use also is not specifically military equipment and thus NOT exempt. -----Original Message----- From: [log in to unmask] [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 13 September 2007 15:29 To: TechNet E-Mail Forum; Burtt, Nigel Subject: RE: [TN] Military Exemption from Lead-Free? What other military equipment that we ship to the EU would not be used for EU defense? If military equipment is sold to the EU as both military and commercial product all that equipment is considered non-exempt from weee and rohs. -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of N Burtt Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2007 9:56 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [TN] Military Exemption from Lead-Free? The WEEE Directive specifically excludes equipment connected with EU Member state security including arms and munitions. It does not exclude ALL "military" equipment per se however - only products which are specifically intended for military purposes. Now... the RoHS Directive contains no such exemption, however, it has been assumed that the scope of RoHS=scope of WEEE unless otherwise indicated. So yes, there is no requirement for lead-free in military equipment for the EU. --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a service by IPC using LISTSERV 15.0 To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?Pageid=4.3.16 for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-615-7100 ext.2815 ----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- This message (including any attachments) may contain confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose.
