Joe - We are require on some of our systems to make sure that there is no possible way to trace the units back to their origins, in these cases we request that there be no logo, UL marking, or even date codes placed on the circuit cards at time of purchase. We use the following notes on our master drawing: XX. [ ] MANUFACTURERS LOGO, DATE CODE AND UL LOGO MAY BE ADDED TO THIS BOARD AT THE FABRICATORS DISCRETION AS EITHER LEGEND OR COPPER FEATURE. (The underlined portions can be changed to control where and how markings can be applied.) [X] MANUFACTURERS LOGO, DATE CODE AND UL LOGO MAY NOT BE ADDED TO THIS BOARD. If we do not include any notes as to marking we expect to see the vendor ID and date code on the boards when we receive them. When we do this we understand that we do not have any warrantee if the boards fail. Let your client know this and if they are willing to accept this caveat then offer to build the boards at a reduced cost due to the missed communication if you still want their business. If a fabrication drawing is silent regarding vendor markings, is it acceptable to apply the fabricators UL logo? We have a customer that is angry we applied our logo. However, we feel we need to apply our logo for our own traceability and ability to do failure analysis should the boards ever be in question. We have had several occasions where our customers return boards we didn't build. It obviously is easy when we can show them the logo is not ours, but it gets difficult when there are no logos on the board. They'd like us to rebuild 5 lots of boards due to not asking them if it was acceptable to apply our vendor id. Should the fabricator be responsible for requesting approval for vendor markings on every job, or should the board buyer be responsible for stating no vendor markings allowed? Your input is appreciated. --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a service by IPC using LISTSERV 15.0 To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?Pageid=4.3.16 for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-615-7100 ext.2815 ----------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Technet Mail List provided as a service by IPC using LISTSERV 15.0 To unsubscribe, send a message to [log in to unmask] with following text in the BODY (NOT the subject field): SIGNOFF Technet To temporarily halt or (re-start) delivery of Technet send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet NOMAIL or (MAIL) To receive ONE mailing per day of all the posts: send e-mail to [log in to unmask]: SET Technet Digest Search the archives of previous posts at: http://listserv.ipc.org/archives Please visit IPC web site http://www.ipc.org/contentpage.asp?Pageid=4.3.16 for additional information, or contact Keach Sasamori at [log in to unmask] or 847-615-7100 ext.2815 -----------------------------------------------------
