June 27, 2007 See IPC/7711/7721A for details on how to attach wires to SMT PADS. With respect to supporting wires to the PADS, if your equipment is subject to any shock or vibration requirement, I recommend you secure the end of each wire that connects to the PAD using some type of adhesive. We use Dow Corning RTV 3145 which is a silicone based adhesive, and apply it within 1/2 inch of the wire end. >From: Lenny Carter <[log in to unmask]> >Reply-To: TechNet E-Mail Forum <[log in to unmask]>, [log in to unmask] >To: [log in to unmask] >Subject: [TN] soldering wires to SMT pads >Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2007 16:49:44 -0500 > >We have a pcb that is powered through a harness and the bottom of the pcb >must be perfectly flat with no 'lead-protrusions" so we are soldering >harness wires into blind holes. the pcbs are very expensive and difficult >to make. >we wonder about soldering harness wires directly to SMT pads on top of the >pcb?
