How are boards handled within your pick an place equipment? Is your machine clamping on the rail? How does the stencil printer secure the board? How close would printed paste be to the board edge? A word of caution. Flexing the board while breaking the edges off can damage SMT solder connections. *** We are Moving - March 15, 2007 *** Guy Ramsey R&D Assembly 1660 East Race Street Allentown PA 18109-9580 (610) 264-1887 FAX (610) 264-1877 -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Phil Nutting Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 8:35 AM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] 0.5 inch breakaway rail on board edges Good morning all, For our PTH design boards we include a 0.5 inch wide v-scored rail on all four sides. These rails contain alignment holes for our Contact Systems machines. They also allow us to handle the boards through the finger conveyor with components out to the edge of the finished board and easily store in the board storage racks. A question has been raised, for cost cutting reasons, if these are really necessary for SMT design boards. Should we just design them one-up with no rails and let the fab house and CM work out the final configuration? Thanks in advance.
