It can be done. Not sure what machine you have, but the level for the z-down distance can be changed so the centering jaws extend above the vacuum nozzle, and you don't use the centering function. Then the part is placed and you depend on the locater posts to align the component in the pwb. The hole for the locater posts are designed with a diameter .0012-.0015" larger than the posts, as the machine can usually always hit that target, even without the centering function. The slop also allows for the surface tension of the solder to align the connector during reflow. It is a difficult step to program on the Mydata, but it can be done. -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Brooks,Bill Sent: Thursday, December 21, 2006 12:18 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Molex 52760-1609 160 Pin connector placement Happy Holidays TechNet, I need a little help, Has anyone out there had recent experience with placing this part? Molex 52760-1609 160 Pin connector 0.635mm pitch with a 58.67mm(2.309in) overall length. http://www.molex.com/product/micro/52760.html It seems to be a little too large to fit in the centering jaws of our Pick and Place machine... what other options are available if we don't go back and redesign to change connectors? Things that I am looking into are: 1) Can our machine shop modify the centering Jaws on the MyData machine to fit the parts? 2)Does MyData sell a conversion or adapter to increase the Jaw area on the machine? 3) Can we still insert the parts without having to go through the centering jaws, perhaps with optical correction? 4) What does a new machine cost that will accept the part? 5) Other options? What issues do you see with keeping the connector in the design? Any good advice on how to proceed?
