I'm curious as to why the notch was not created in the first place by the PCB fabricator, as it appears on your drawing, it should have been on the fabricators profile drawing too! As the PCBA is to class 3, I would be conscious about loose fibres and edge quality (ingress of moisture/delamination etc)which will be dependant on the method of removal, and although you are not specific about the removal of "surface resin" I suspect this may be accidental damage where you are trying to take the notch out. This may have exposed the weave of the glass, and have possible long term reliability issues. Colin W.T. The Drawing requires us to cut a notch at the edge of the PCB. Of course this operation exposes the fibers, but on a few of the PCBs we have also removed an area of resin (approx. 1.5 mm square) from the top surface. The exposed area is well away from any conductor and the PCB will be conformally coated after assembly. I can't find anything in IPC-A-610 which applies to this situation. We are building to Class 3 requirements. Is there any cause for concern? Thanks in advance. Best regards, Paul Baine Q.A.
