Hi Brian, A soldered contact is not designed for press-fitting (ie compliant press-fit pin). You will not form a gas tight seal between the pin and the hole/barrel wall even though the pin is tight. The pin might even fracture the barrel causing an open or longer term intermittent/open. I would not use your application for class 2 or class 3. I have had no problem press-fitting a compliant press-fit pin (connector, 180 pin) in to a ENIG plated barrel/board. As long as you specifiy the PTH tolerance recommended by the press-fit pin manufacturer. Kerry Kerry McMullen Principal New Product Mfg. What might the outcome of this be over the long term? Is this an accepted practice? Would this be acceptable in a class 3 military application? Thank you for your input.
