I suspect that handling IMAg surface PWBs is a glove operation. Is there IPC supportive guidelines/documentation/standard. These each would typically not be a problem unless they exposed copper, they appearance is what throws most inspectors off. When you see rub or abrasion marks on immersion silver it may make the surface very shiny, this causes inspectors or even line people to think this is a problem. If the bag they are in contact with contains sulfur you risk contamination of the silver finish, this is evident by the surface turning dull brown to black. If the bag has been contaminated by chlorides (your fingers inside the bag opening it up or during packaging) then the surface may turn very dull, to yellow. ImAg surfaces must never touch while in the package nor should they touch the bag.. I'd be more than willing to pay for this. Can we trade the cost for leaving out the useless desiccant? I have seen the recommendation that cover sheets and interleaf sheets should be used to prevent scratches on IAg finished PWBs. Have those that are using IAg seen this as necessary? We eliminated this requirement on Sn/Pb finished PWBs some time ago without any negative effects.
