I created a rule , that MIL boards (and other components with SnPb, Cu and Kovar ) that are not to be used within half a year shall be sealed in ESD plastic bags and filled with DRY nitrogen. Works well, cheap and simple method. You need a outdoor space to place the liquid nitrogen tank, they use to be several meters high and weigh tons. Usually, you rent them from a gas supplier. Liquid nitrogen is converted to gas nitrogen and fed into the building via humidity safe stainless tubes. The installation must be done by professionals! A quantity of 1000 PCB's is contemplated. The boards will measure approx. 8x6x2 inches. The storage area will be in a heated/air conditioned building so there will be no temperature extremes--near office environment. Have any of you had any experience with this and do you have any specific recommendations regarding companies that sell appropriate storage equipment for maintaining low humidity? We have just begun to discuss this and have thought about using everything from sealed ESD bags with enclosed desiccant to sophisticated containers that supply controlled nitrogen. Anything from knowledge based on personal experience to names of companies or knowledgeable professionals would be appreciated.
