Camille and Dewey, Thanks for the replies. I am trying to rewrite our material specification for PWBs to allow for lead-free processing. I am expected to do so without effecting unit cost (watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat). We presently specify the use of a /26 compliant laminate. Anyone got an idea as to the material cost increase (%) that would be seen by changing to a /126 ? Is there any other cost adders for the PWB manufacturer when using a /126 material? I just saw a very informative (and very good!) presentation by him regarding the slash sheets, among other things. His presentation included information about /126 & /129. Gerard is a member of a couple of IPC committees, and I think maybe the chairman of one of them(?), so you can probably find his e-mail on the IPC web site. As Dewey stated, there are some additional parameters that are mandatory testing for /126 which are not specified in /26. During Gerard O'Brien's presentation, I think he said that the /126 and /129 specs are aimed more at very high reliability applications. If you are going to lead-free processes but are not doing medical/life safety/aerospace/military type applications, it is very possible that some of the other proposed slash sheets like /99 or /124 might be sufficient for what you need. -Camille Good Portland, Oregon "Whittaker, Dewey (EHCOE)" <[log in to unmask]> wrote: Two materials right now that are procured to /26 will meet the requirements of /126. The main difference is the mandating of testing that used to be optional, higher decomp temperature, max Z-axis expansion of 3% @ 260 C., and CAF resistance testing. Draft 3 of IPC-4101B stops at /96. Where would I obtain a copy of this document or , better yet, how does this laminate differ from the /26 material.
