John, You are doing a fine job collecting and disseminating information and prodding the RoHS committee. I looked at your website (almost daily) and noticed the Request for Exemptions / #16 (from Pulsar Light). They deserve support as they are saying all the right things: The reduction of lead in landfills is barely noticeable. (On top of that a lot of that lead is vitrified, like they do with some radioactive waste, in the glass of the CRT-s.) The increase in pain in production is very noticeable. (Higher temperatures = bad consequences, immediate and long term.) The loss in reliability is going to be one heck of a pain. (It is already recognized as critical applications like medical, military and aerospace are exempt!!! Lower quality of the joint and tin whiskers!) Regards and keep up the good work, Ahne. -----Original Message----- From: TechNet [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of John Burke Sent: Tuesday, 16 May, 2006 9:34 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Latest updates on RoHS round 5 exemptions and US postal stamps Hi all, I sent RoHS support docs across to Europe yesterday - nice people, I sent them at 6-30 pacific pointing out that the deadline merely said May 15th, and they apparently accepted them. You can view all of the exemption requests support documents that I have submitted at this backdoor link http://www.rohsusa.com/page18.html or select from the Exemptions menu at the main site at http://www.rohsusa.com <http://www.rohsusa.com/> On either method, to get to the latest submissions hit the hyperlink that is annotated "Comments and support from RoHS USA for 9 of the exemption applications". Nine of the applications are supported on environmental grounds. The SWATCH application is further supported on the tin whiskering issue. For anyone that was concerned, all I can say having read that white paper is "be afraid". And yes it's true, the US postal service (Bless them) has approved the artwork for the Pushback logo on stamps. So you can now send your letters of protest etc using these.. You can get them from the main site at http://www.rohsusa.com <http://rohsusa.com/> hit the "buy Pushback stuff" button on the main menu and take a look. Note this is going to an environmental charity.. Have a great day.
