I'm not a techie, so I do not fully understand some of it. Hope it helps. Alan. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> http://www.nonagsplus.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1268&PN=1 In my internet ramblings, I've seen quite a few programs with this function -- but most of them are shareware. Personally, I use one that's part of the 12Ghosts package ($ware) ...just because I've had a license for years. I can think of a couple freeware recommendations: In the Windows NT Resource Kit, there's a file (layout.dll) that is designed to solve this problem. But if you're not familiar with the "ins and outs" of registerings DLL's, the registry, etc., a freeware app has been designed around it. You can find it here: http://users.rcn.com/taylotr/icon_restore.html The one I'm most familiar with is ActivIcons. It does this and much (much, much) more. I'm not sure if it's even listed here at NoNags, but you should check it out. http://www.cursorarts.com/ca_ai_b.html But if you test all three of the choices I'm giving you here, you're probably going to choose this next one (Iconoid, by SillySot Software). It's well written -- and kind of "in between" in the number of functions. http://www.sillysot.com/ -----Original Message----- From: Terry Kozlyk [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: Thursday, April 13, 2006 12:11 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [TN] Desktop save Utility - Looking For Problem; On my office PC I have arranged my desktop icons the way I want them ( like everyone else does). It's a 21" screen so I have a lot of room. But when I login remotely to do a design review etc, its on a small screen & the desktop icons get scrambled. That is fine & understandable. But when I get back to my work PC, I would like to be able to recall my "saved" desktop Icon layout. Apparently, there is NO way that Windows XP Pro allows you to do this.....( duh ??? ). There must be a 3rd party utility that helps me with this problem. Anyone have any leads they can share with me?
